8

Can I submit again if I was selected in a previous issue?

Absolutely. We encourage you to keep creating, keep evolving; and keep replying to the world with your art.

9

Can I reply to my own artwork?

While we deeply value introspection and artistic evolution, Art In Reply is a space devoted to connection between artists. We're here to spark cross-pollination - for painters to inspire poets, for dancers to move writers, for sound to echo into form. That means replies must come from another artist's work featured in the magazine, continuing the dialogue outward. Think of it as a creative chain letter - your voice is a link, not a loop. So, in short; no.

10

Why is there an interview fee?

At Art In Reply, our artist interviews are carefully crafted to honour the depth, vision and story behind your work. The fee helps support the creative and technical labor involved - from in-depth editing, thoughtful layout and design, to the digital and print presentation of your feature.

We believe in fairness, transparency, and the power of artist-to-artist connection. Every interview is a collaboration - and your contribution helps us continue building this space for meaningful dialogue, high quality visibility, and long term sustainability.

We are committed to keeping fees as low and fair as possible while honoring the work it takes to make this magazine thrive.

11

Who can submit?

We welcome submissions from artists of all disciplines, backgrounds, and levels of recognition. Whether you're a painter, poet, dancer, composer, installation artist, or something in between - your work holds a question, a message, or a presence, we want to see it.

Art In Reply is not about status. It's about resonance. We seek artists whose voices echo through their work, who are not afraid to begin a conversation or respond to one.

12

When will I hear back?

After submissions close, our team carefully reviews every piece. Because of the volume and depth of work we receive, responses may take 4-6 weeks after the deadline. We read slowly, as one should when listening. If your work is selected, you will be contacted directly.

How would a performative artist be featured?

Art lives in many forms - not all of them bound to pages. At Art In Reply, we welcome movement, sound, and time-based works with open arms.

If you are a dancer, choreographer, composer, sound artist, or work in any performative medium, your submission might include:

  • Visual Translation

- Select photos / video stills that capture the essence of the performance.

- Include choreographic sketches, scores or notations.

- Use sequential layout to convey movement or transformation - a visual echo of the performance

  • Written Accompaniment

- Request a poetic or reflective written piece from the artist: a memory of the performance, what the music meant, how their body moved, what they were responding to.

- Invite collaborators (visual artists, writers) to interpret their performance in another form, creating dialogue

  • QR codes / Links

Include discreet QR codes that lead to brief audio or video excerpts.

- These allow readers to feel the work in motion while maintaining the tactile, quiet experience of the magazine.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Response

- Pair their work with another artist's response: an illustration, painting, poem, or even a textile that reflects the rhythm, energy, or theme of the original piece.
